Sunday Course
Our Sunday five-week beginners’ archery course welcomes complete beginners and archers returning to the sport after a break. The course fee covers all equipment, insurance, coaching, and at least 5 - 7.5 hours of tuition, subject to booking.
We keep group sizes small so coaches can give everyone plenty of individual attention alongside group instruction.
We designed this course for adults, but are happy to accommodate children aged 14 years and upwards. Anyone under 18 years old must attend with a parent or guardian, who must also book and shoot alongside them. For younger children please take a look at our Children & Family Archery Club.
Our Sunday 5 week beginners archery course is run at our great indoor venue in Archway North London: Caxton House Community Centre, 129 St.John's Way, Archway, N19 3RQ. Please double check your booking carefully, as sessions start at either 1:15pm, 2:45pm or 3:15pm.
Course Content:
The course covers the two main recurve archery styles—Barebow and Olympic-style (sighted). You will learn essential safety rules, archery etiquette, basic equipment knowledge, scoring, and how to shoot the full indoor distance of 20 yards.
After the Course:
We encourage you to continue shooting with us regularly at our club sessions on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings, Sunday afternoons, and Monday evenings. After completing the course, you will also be eligible to join any Archery GB club in the UK.
Important Note:
Regular shooting after the course is expected to help you consolidate your skills and continue improving your technique and enjoyment of the sport. If you stop shooting and return at a later date, you may need to repeat the course as a refresher.

A great introduction to archery. The teachers are organised, kind, and explain things well. Groups are small enough that you get individual attention. The kit’s in good nick and they’ll also give you sound advice on buying your own if you want to. I would recommend this course for anyone who has always wanted to try archery out but never got round to doing it. It’s never too late to start! The instructors are very informative, friendly and good at explaining. You will get plenty of time to shoot and fellow club members are very accommodating for beginners. Even though my group was full, there was still space for lots of individual attention during the course. The club environment is great and there’s lots of friendly people ready to help you out. So much so I was eagerly awaiting the next week’s lesson as soon as the last one was over and was constantly watching archery videos on YouTube in between lessons (seriously, you’ll be hooked!)
I particularly want to mention our fantastic instructor Lee, who was patient, very knowledgeable, and above all, extremely friendly. Suffice to say I am now a member of the club and will be attending on a weekly basis to shoot (which also is a fantastic price, including the hiring of bows and all equipment!)
So if you are at all interested in archery and can get to this centre, don’t hesitate to try a have-a-go session and then sign up to the beginners course; but I warn you, you WILL get addicted!

I found this course was perfect for me, I always wanted to try archery out but never got round to doing it, the weekend options and timings perfectly suited my schedule too.
Lee, our instructor was very informative, friendly and good at explaining techniques, posture and several other tips to improve on your performance. We had plenty of time to work on our shooting during the course, pretty much from day one.
I was a bit conscious about shooting arrows from such an early stage, but I soon realised that, with the coaching and supervision provided on site, archery was an utterly safe and much enjoyable activity to practice.
The size of our group, six people, allowed for a smooth practice flow as well as one-to-one coaching whilst shooting; making the whole experience more rewarding with every little improvement on my shooting technique and the arrows closing in to the central target.
At the end of the course, Lee promptly provided ample resources and recommendations on equipment to purchase if you are to continue shooting, as well as the steps to follow if you would like to keep on doing this with the club.
Overall a really enjoyable experience I would recommend to everyone willing to have a go at archery as a sport of just for fun. The time literally flies on the course days and I am really glad I finally decided to give archery a go!
